SAT preparation from Switzerland
One-to-one SAT® preparation in Switzerland
Prepare for the SAT from your home or boarding school in Switzerland with individual lessons at SAT Étoile. You work face to face with a teacher, online or in person. Packs range from 10 to 120 hours. After an initial assessment, the team recommends a programme, a schedule and a target score, agreed before you enrol.
Lessons can be taught in English or French. Administrative communication is in French. Prices are available on request. Online lessons allow you to fit preparation around school without travelling to each session. In-person lessons are available in Geneva, by appointment.

Check how the SAT fits your university plans
Studying in Switzerland does not create a general requirement to take the SAT. The relevant rules depend on your university, degree programme, school qualification and intended intake. Read the official requirements first: the test may be required, accepted as one of several options or optional.
- Swiss Matura or French Baccalaureate: check the policies of your target universities. An international application may involve the SAT alongside your school qualification.
- IB Diploma: the IB and SAT have different purposes. Establish whether a score is needed or useful before adding preparation to an already busy Diploma schedule.
- American High School Diploma: some Swiss institutions publish requirements specific to this qualification. EHL includes a route using the SAT, ACT or CLT, together with other diploma and application conditions.
- International or boarding school: identify the qualification you will receive and the support your school already provides. Individual lessons can focus on difficulties that remain after that preparation.
Our guide to the SAT and Swiss university admissions — in French compares these situations. See the EHL guide — in French for its diploma-specific rules. University admission decisions remain with the institution concerned.
Start with your results and your available time
If you have taken the SAT or a full Bluebook practice test, keep your section scores and review the questions you missed. These give a useful starting point for the discussion. Tell the team which programmes you are applying to, when you intend to take the test and how much time you can set aside between lessons.
The Étoile initial assessment contains 15 questions to complete in 20 minutes. It helps identify areas for discussion; it does not produce an official SAT score out of 1600 or replace a full practice test. You can access the initial assessment page — in French.
The recommended pack may cover both sections or focus on the needs identified. A suitable number of hours cannot be calculated from a desired score increase alone. Your starting level, school workload and time for independent practice also matter. All lessons are individual, whether online or in person.
What happens during a lesson?
In Reading and Writing, you explain why an answer follows from a passage and why a competing option does not. Lessons also cover grammar, punctuation, transitions and vocabulary in context. Being comfortable speaking English does not remove the need to practise these questions.
In Math, the teacher works through the concepts and decisions behind your errors: equations, functions, data, geometry, mathematical wording in English or the choice of an efficient method. After correcting a question, you try another one to check that you can apply the method yourself.
Timed sets and practice tests help distinguish gaps in understanding from reading errors or time pressure. The corrections inform what to practise before the next lesson. The teaching method — in French explains this process. Our Reading and Writing guide and Math guide are also available in French.
Plan around school assessments and applications
Put school exams, IB assignments or Matura work, application deadlines and your intended SAT date on the same calendar. Then allow time for practice between lessons. A holiday week is only useful for an intensive course if you can also complete and review the work.
Illustrative schedule, not a student case: if the assessment leads to a 30-hour programme over ten weeks, two 90-minute lessons per week provide that volume. Identify busy school weeks before confirming the timetable. This example shows how hours can be distributed; it does not predict a score.
An individual intensive course may suit a period when you have more time available. A programme spread across several weeks leaves time to revisit mistakes between lessons. The choice follows the assessment and your actual availability. See online lesson arrangements — in French or planning preparation from Lausanne — in French.
The Garantie Étoile: an agreed score guaranteed at 100%
Your target score is agreed with the team after the assessment and before enrolment, based on your starting level, plans and timetable. That agreed score is guaranteed at 100% under the conditions of the recommended programme.
If you follow the programme and the teaching recommendations, including lessons and independent work, but do not reach the agreed score, your preparation continues with additional training at no extra charge until you achieve it. The guarantee applies to online and in-person lessons. Its conditions are explained before enrolment. Read the Garantie Étoile conditions — in French.
Geneva lessons and taking the official test
In-person lessons are available in a room at 77 rue de Lyon in Geneva, by appointment. The location and time are confirmed before you travel. See Geneva lesson arrangements — in French. Online lessons remain an option wherever you study in Switzerland.
SAT Étoile is an independent preparation provider and is not affiliated with College Board. Online lessons prepare you for the official SAT, which is taken at an authorised test centre. Registration for the test is a separate step through College Board; available locations and seats depend on the date.
Our guide to taking the SAT in Switzerland — in French explains the process. For information directly in English, use College Board’s test centre search and registration instructions.
Request a programme for your circumstances
Include your school qualification, intended test date, previous results if available and your lesson availability. The team can then discuss a programme and provide a quote. Lessons can be in English; the contact form and administrative communication are in French.
